We are using a customized version of Windows CE tailored to the specific needs of this product. The reason Windows CE 5.0 has been chosen is because it is a proven operating system that can be customized for its specific purpose and which supports a wide range of network environments and basic .Net Compact framework. After a decade in the field basically all issues have been addressed and it is a platform that is very mature, stable and proven in comparison to other operating systems (latest is not always greatest when you consider this kind of embedded platform – even if Windows CE may seem “old”, it is in fact now better than ever).
The Evoko Room Manager is a mature and proven product with a minimum footprint in regards of performance issues and maintenance. It is extremely unusual that we experience problems with the OS, and when we do they are only related to time zone issues or font issues. Both of these issues are however something we can solve directly from our end (without involving Microsoft). Therefore we don’t see any reason at all to be concerned.
